When the world abruptly ends, newly weds Amy and Rory find themselves struggling just to keep treading water. Each day is a struggle, and between trying to dodge the infected and gangs existence seems bleak. Then in a moment of complete luck, they meet the man who calls himself the Doctor. A brilliant man—if not a bit mental—in his bowtie, tweed jacket and braces, the mysterious Doctor seems to take a liking to the duo and helps them survive and, maybe, live again.
